Key West, work & play but mostly work.

KEYSMy husband and I were in Key West this weekend to shoot a wedding (Wilhelmina Weddings), and the rehearsal dinner the night before. This is my second time to Key West and not my last. We have another wedding there coming up later in the year! It was, however, my husbands first time.  I have to admit that I wasn’t as impressed with Key West my first visit as I was this time around. I think it had to do with the weather, our schedule, but most of all the company. Happiness is certainly better shared. The first time I was there, it was HOT. I couldn’t quite understand the Key West hype, and thought maybe it’s just a party person kind of thing! Well, this time, the weather was BEAUTIFUL. Sun shining, cool breeze, beautiful light. The town was alive with a bunch of people out and the atmosphere was fun and energetic and Alex got his fill of Cuban cigars. Being from New York I very much enjoy being around people and walking through a city that thrives, so walking through the streets of Key West felt like a little slice of that. We were able to stay at the Truman Hotel which we were quite fond of. The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating. We had a little situation going on and needed to print, and scan some contracts quickly, then email them. The front desk was eager to help and then denied a tip. They did such a wonderful job making sure we were comfortable and kept knocking on our door to give us chocolate and water! The place was really cute with it’s vibrant colours, yet simple. My husband and I both left the hotel very happy with our stay. On the evening of the rehearsal we had dinner at El Meson de Pepe (compliments of Monika and Andrew) and holy cow, this place was delicious. Authentic Cuban food that made my mouth water. Ugh. I want a plate again right now! To top it off, the KEY LIME PIE. Jeez. I’m ashamed, but this was my first Key Lime Pie experience and I’m pretty sure it was the right time. I highly recommend! Thanks again, Monika & Andrew. The next morning we skipped the hotel breakfast and took a walk down Duval Street, stumbling upon Croissants de France. This place was yummy, but I mostly liked the atmostphere. Open sky on a wood deck filled with lush greenery, and an imperfect charm. There was a rooster on the fence crowing every two minutes which was quite entertaining, and a hen at our feet waiting for food. I loved it! I love the Keys because you feel like you’re in another country. I often had to remind myself that I was still in Florida. So many different cultures. Grande Key West Cafe was nice. Pretty basic meals for a decent price. Once again a really pretty, charming atmosphere. Enough about food! Our drive to the Keys was six hours long. Alex drove there and I drove back. I definitely needed a cozy outfit for the six our drive that I would be super comfy in since it was a bit chilly and slightly windy. The outfit I went with was perfect for that! I can’t tell you how effortlessly comfortable these sweater and pants are. I could put my legs up, fall asleep, stretch out and I was totally comfy (darn-it I keep saying that) without feeling sloppy. I also brought a pretty basic soft stretchy white tank and soft stretchy gray skirt. I cannot keep away from basics lately. So simple, so clean, you really can’t go wrong.
